Wisconsin Partner Unveils New Website on Courts

By Lissette Villarruel

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign (WDC) has  launched a new website, www.impartialjustice.org, dedicated to fighting threats against the state?s justice system, specifically  the state Supreme Court.

Through brochures and videos, the site outlines the increasingly disturbing role of special interests in judicial elections, warning that ?Wisconsin is courting disaster.? The site offers links to other organizations involved in the movement for fair and impartial courts, including the Brennan Center for Justice and the Justice at Stake Campaign.

In addition, the website helps interested visitors to actively participate in the campaign, with a petition to ?bring justice back into balance.? Other suggestions include writing to the editor of the local newspaper and contacting state representatives, and joining the WDC and Judicial Independence Project.

According to a Wisconsin Democracy Campaign press release, the new web site is a product of the WDC?s Judicial Independence Project, whose goal is:

to promote fair and impartial courts in Wisconsin through research, education, alliance building and advocacy ? with a primary focus on building awareness of growing special interest influence over state Supreme Court elections and how interest groups are operating outside current state disclosure laws and campaign finance limitations as they seek control over Wisconsin’s highest court.

For more information about the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, you can visit their website.
