Susan Cartier Liebel was kind enough to allow me to guest post on her blog -- Build A Solo Practice. You can and you should read the post or article, if you have not, and this is especially true if you have been thinking about making the move home with your law practice. You can read the article by CLICKING HERE.
What is interesting to me, as I reread what I wrote, is that in the fall Houston, Texas was hit by a bad hurricane. Many professional office buildings were damaged and had to be temporarily abandoned. Lawyers had to find a place to work for several months while their buildings were being rehabbed. It is a story that is repeated all over the metro area. Many of these lawyers had nowhere to go but home. They thought they would make do until they could move back into the typical commercial life. What is interesting, in the course of my practice, I have spoken with two lawyers in two weeks who tell me that although they resisted such a move home before, now that they are home they have decided not to move back into their commercial spaces. They find working from home too enjoyable, less expensive, and less worrisome.
Now, I am not suggesting that you live through a hurricane, but I am suggesting that you can make the move home without waiting for a natural disaster to convince you that the Big Law life does not work well for many, and it is acceptable and cheaper to work from your home. Whether out of need or want, my thought is that once you work at home you are no longer willing to go back to commute, the expense and the stress the commercial building life causes.
Anyway, enjoy my post on Build A Solo Practice.
