"Eric Nalder and a Seattle Post-Intelligencer investigative team, and Christine Young of the Times Herald-Record of Middletown, N.Y., have won the annual criminal justice reporting awards given by the Center on Media, Crime and Justice at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The Post-Intelligencer won for 'The Strong Arm of the Law,' a series that ran in January and February 2008 on Seattle police bias in making arrests for obstruction and the questionable handling of complaints against police over the wrongful use of force.

"Young won for her Jan. 13, 2008, article, 'I Didn't Do that Murder,' in which she examined the 1989 conviction of Lebrew Jones, who spent 20 years in prison on charges of murdering a prostitute. As a result of the article, the Manhattan District Attorney opened a new investigation of the case. Each award recipient received $1,000. The awards were given yesterday at the annual Harry Frank Guggenheim Symposium on Crime in America."
