AG NOMINEE SAYS HE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT REVERSING COMPEAN CASE

Attorney General nominee Eric Holder has told Senators that he was prepared to review the extremely controversial last minute ruling by former Attorney General Michael Mukasey that having incompetent representation would no longer be a defense to being deported.

According to the Associated Press,

Holder said he would reexamine a ruling by former Attorney General Michael Mukasey that immigrants facing deportation do not have a right to government-provided lawyers.

Holder said he understands the desire to expedite immigration court proceedings, but the Constitution also requires that proceedings be fair.

Wow. The Constitution means something again. It's a new day.
