Baby's first pedicure

ADVERTISEMENTS

Today I had a pedicure - and so did Eden.  In my perfect world, I would get these once a month.  In reality, it's more like three or four times a year, because I usually can't justify the time or expense.  And yeah, it's winter and it's not exactly sandal weather....but my feet were getting a wee bit hobbity, so it was a good time.

Matthew and Peach had to come with me, because I can't leave Peach home alone with Matthew because he can't pick her up (or chase her, or get her out of the pantry, or keep her from splashing in the dog water) right now.  They went across the street and had breakfast (seriously, he fed her part of an apple fritter - when I first asked what she'd eaten, he just said, "you really don't want to know."  He was right).  But she was hugely interested in what was going on with my feet by the time they returned, and LOVED watching the polish process.  The young man who was doing the pedicure was charmed by her (admittedly, she flirted) and he said he'd do her toes, too.
First-pedicure
We thought blue would be a good color, and that this would last all of one toenail.  Blue?  She was having none of that - Matthew took her to the colors and she picked out fuchsia.  And then grabbed the bottle and shook it up like a pro.  (I swear she did NOT get this from me - I don't even know where I keep the nail polish at home.)

My kid, the kid who squirms non-stop, who can't stand or sit still while conscious?  Patiently let him trim her nails and paint them - and then let the polish dry.  I admit to having some visions of doing girl-stuff with her in the future, but I figured that would be years and years down the line.  But she was so cute about the whole thing and was such a BIG GIRL that I was quite proud.  The part of me that is a feminist who only wants her to make informed incursions into the beauty culture just had to suck it up while the part of me that likes doing girly stuff basked in the glow of the shared experience.

And her toes really do look adorable - especially with the little flower stickers on her big toes.
