King Nut Recalls Peanut Butter For Salmonella Contamination

Minnesota Public Health officials have linked King Nut peanut butter to a nationwide salmonella outbreak after preliminary lab tests found the products were contaminated.

On January 10, 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall of peanut butter brands distributed by King Nut food supply that were manufactured for the company by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).

King Nut distributes the peanut butter to large institutions including prisons and schools, not directly to consumers. The recalled products were sold under the labels “Parnell’s Pride Peanut Butter” and “King Nut Peanut Butter.”

The salmonella outbreak is responsible for 400 or more cases of salmonella poisoning throughout the U.S. since September 2008, according to state health officials.

This outbreak is just over a year from the salmonella outbreak involving tainted Great Value and Peter Pan peanut butter that sickened more than 300 people.

ConAgra Foods, maker of Peter Pan peanut butter released a statement that their company is not in any way involved with the recent recall. #
