: Law Firm BloggerThree Tips for New Law Bloggers
By Amy Derby
Last week a lawyer I?m connected with on LinkedIn asked me ?If you had three quick, simple tips for a new blogger what would they be??
I thought it was a good question. Here were my answers:
1) Know who you’re blogging for and why.
2) Understand who your potential reader is and how to connect with him.
3) Talk on your blog the way you would talk to someone in your office or at a casual lunch.
Anyone who jumps into blogging without considering the above three things will likely spend a lot of time wondering if what they?re doing is really worth their time, why they?re not getting anything out of its, why not enough people are reading ? or if people are reading, why they?re not commenting, and so on.
Without knowing what your goals are for blogging and why you?re doing it, there is really no point to blogging. You?re a guy at a podium who has decided to give a presentation, only you don?t know what the presentation should be about, because you don?t know who is in the audience listening. Worse, you?re talking to an empty room, because no one?s showing up to hear some stranger talk about nothing that?s of value to him.
My favorite blogs go beyond presentation to spark a conversation. To have a conversation, you have to know who you?re talking with, and what the purpose of the conversation is. You want to talk in a way that the other person understands ? in terms they connect with, on subjects they care about ? in a voice that sounds like yours.
Have you considered these three points?
