A suicidal woman doesn't buy new shoes, say Specter prosecutors

By Jonathan Hayter

ADVERTISEMENTS
Prosecutors in the retrial of music producer Phil Spector rested their case with the testimony of the mother of Lana Clarkson, the woman he is accused of murdering.

Clarkson, an actress, suffered a fatal bullet wound in the foyer of Spector?s mansion six years ago. Her body was found sprawled on a chair in the entryway of his home.

Spector, whose pop acts include the Beatles and Tina Turner, is on trial a second time in connection with the shooting. The first trial, in 2007, ended when jurors deadlocked 10 to 2 in favor of conviction. Spector, 68, faces a minimum of 18 years in prison if found guilty of second degree murder.

On Thursday, Donna Clarkson, Lana Clarkson?s mother, testified that her daughter bought eight pairs of shoes prior to her death ? a clear sign that she did not commit suicide, as defense attorneys have suggested. The testimony capped nine weeks of prosecution testimony.
