Matthew is doing well.  He was in the hospital less than 24 hours (total, not after the surgery!) and is fortunately comfortable in one chair (the one in front of his computer) and in bed, so as long as he hits the pain meds and stays put, he does OK.  It's been awful for him to not be able to pick up Peach or hold her much, but she's such a whirl of activity, she rarely stays in one place long enough to notice.

The big developments on my end?  Er...not many.  I have a lot of work to do, plus a bunch of new cases in the door, but I missed all of Thursday and most of Friday.   Mostly, I've been sitting in the car - I have spent a ton of time driving this week - out to Eastern Oregon Monday afternoon (in a windstorm, and driving my boss's Xterra - not so fun), back from Eastern Oregon Tuesday night (much more manageable), to daycare, the hospital, home, the hospital, daycare, the hospital on Thursday, and then daycare, work, the hospital, daycare, and home on Friday.  Imagine my delight when some light came on the dashboard while I was driving out to get milk late Friday (after Peach was in bed).  So today I am $150 poorer (oil change, two air filters, and one headlight - I guess it could have been worse), but happy I managed to fit the service in while Peach was napping.

This evening, while I was cooking a very simple (funky shaped pasta, white sauce, and broccoli) dinner, Peach adopted a lemon.  It was one particular lemon, too - Sunkist, from a bag of lemons from Costco.  She tried to poke holes in its skin, rolled it around the kitchen, tossed it around, tried to bite it - and the best part - she insisted that it sit on her plate with her food while she ate from around it.  I guess if I were supermom, I would have a) had sparkling clean floors so I wouldn't have worried about b) germs, but since I'm not supermom, I don't have a) except for once every two weeks, after the wonderful T comes to clean, and I didn't even think about b) until after she was done eating.  Whoops.  In my defense, it has only been a couple of days since T was here, and Norris has scant access to the kitchen.

On the plus side, she ate some broccoli, so who am I to complain, really?

Randomly:

  • If you find yourself in La Grande, stay at the Stange Manor B&B.
  • If you hear Peach say something questionable, it's "duck."  Really.
  • Peach has learned to open her closet doors and our pantry doors.  She's working on regular doorhandles.  This completely sucks.
