Crushworthy?

By Anne Skove, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS

If you're crushing on Lynne Stewart, or even if you're not, you may be interested in her appeal.

Stewart, recall, was convicted of providing material support to a terrorist conspiracy (i.e., her client). She is either Belle of the Wrongfully Convicted + Disbarred Ball or Pinko (in a bad way) of the Century, depending on your viewpoint.

Her case, says Doug, "will generate plenty more stories in the months and years ahead." First Amendment, conspiracy, lawyering, sentencing -- it's all there. She's the Great White Mumia, sans dreads. Kathy Bates should play her in a movie of the week.

See Lynne Stewart Appeal Raising Lots of Notable Issues, Doug Berman, Sentencing Law & Policy (January 30, 2008), which contains commentary and good links.
