My Wednesday

ADVERTISEMENTS
Woke up with K, did the normal baby morning things.

Left early to go to a PON forum. Russell Korobkin talked about a study he conducted where first-year law students did a mock settlement negotiation. He was trying to figure out what influenced the result in a controlled environment where neither person had any negotiation experience or training. He found that the amount of the first offer was the biggest factor. This squared with what we learned in negotiation workshop: make the first offer so that you can be the one to anchor the negotiation, instead of trying to bring the other person's position in line with yours. Gender was also significant -- women tended to do worse, and Korobkin suggested that it was because they overestimated the other side's bottom line. I wonder if the gender effect goes away with negotiation training.

I sat next to a guy who spent the first hour of the talk shaking his head, sighing audibly, burying his head in his hands, and muttering things like, "Absolutely wrong." Before the talk ended, he got up and left.

Went to my locker to grab my books. Discovered a pacifier in my coat pocket.

Library. Finished all my reading for the rest of the semester!

Lunch at the Hark. I sat at the end of a long, mostly empty table with my flashcards and balsamic tofu, yum yum. I had been there two minutes when a guy sat down directly across from me. Then he started shouting in Japanese. I looked up and noticed he had a Bluetooth earpiece. I'm not sure if he even saw me right in front of him.

Back to the library. Outlined Con Law for a couple of hours.

Back to my locker. Stowed my books. Found a plastic spoon at the bottom of my purse.

Activity break -- I walked, ran, stretched, climbed up and down staircases all over campus, until class. Easier than going to the gym.

Last Con Law class of the semester! It ended ten minutes early so we could fill out course evaluations. I didn't write any comments on mine because objectively, I think it was a good class, but subjectively, I found the professor pompous and was too sleep-deprived to concentrate half the time.

Brought K home. Hula hooped while he jumped in the Jumperoo. This is our new thing -- he gets disappointed if I don't do it, I think. Applauded wildly when he stood up on his own. Mrs. Daycare said she hadn't seen him do it. Maybe he's perfecting it at home before he tries it out in public.

Bedtime routine. I like to give K some diaper-free time after his bath. He peed on the rug. Another favorite activity during diaper-free time is to find the dirtiest place in the house and sit in it.

Ate a delicious dinner cooked by JW. Not balsamic tofu. Over dinner, exclaimed, "I never have to take another Con Law class ever again!" JW shook his head. "There goes your shot at a Supreme Court clerkship." "Uh, yeah. There goes my shot."

More Con Law outlining. I discover Justice Chase's first name was Salmon.
