Unfounded Optimism

ADVERTISEMENTS

I can't explain it.

Maybe it's nothing more than the hope that often accompanies a fresh start in the new year. Perhaps I am just giddy to be getting a lower mortgage rate. Or maybe I am overly influenced by gains in the stock market over the past few days. Or by the fact that I like Obama's economic appointments.

In any event, I have no basis for assuming that the economy is going to recover in 2009, but over the past day or two, I have allowed myself to become optimistic.

With Christmas already paid off, my wife and I even splurged for some new area rugs today. On sale, of course.

Things are looking up ... now, if only we could have a college football playoff.
