ADVERTISEMENTS
Because I only seem to be able to communicate in bullet lists these days, here are 16 facts about my wedding 16 years ago today (which Geni informs me is my tungsten anniversary):
- I was 19 years old. (Yes, I still knew everything.)
- My father was the minister at my wedding.
- My parents only learned Matthew was 11 years older when we were filling out the marriage certificate.
- There was a lot of snow on the ground.
- The heat did not come on in the church, and because there was a lot of snow on the ground, no one could get to the furnace in the basement to get the heat on.
- Everyone had to keep their coats on.
- I say "everyone," but we had a very, very small wedding. Like maybe 15 people.
- Did I mention the cold? Cold like Donner Party cold, and come to think of it, we were really quite close to where that all went down.
- My brother John misbehaved so much that Matthew took him outside, dangled him by his ankles above a snow drift, and said that if he didn't shape up, Matthew would drop him in.
- John shaped up.
- I remember very little about the whole evening, and I wonder if I can get to 16?
- We used the Edward VI Book of Common Prayer service.
- My mother's father walked me up the "aisle."
- I say "aisle," but really we were in a very small chapel.
- I had only gotten my dress the day before.
- And really, I was supposed to get married on the 29th - but the snow was so bad it had to be postponed a day.
