At Least Amazon Had A Good Christmas. When almost all retailers, including the online retailers (but less so here), had a bad Christmas,why did Amazon have a good one? A trusted brand is clearly one reason, but I think there are others which may be more subtle. Our buying habits have been changing incrementally for quite some time now. This is not a news flash.

However, during tough economic times, when our "disposable time" as well as our "disposable income" is more focused on "economic survival activities" the former may propel a more significant change in buying behavior (as opposed to the incremental changes heretofore).

In short, another inflection point. Not only is there a consensus that we are going to consume less (now that the party is over and we start to recover from a 25 year consumption binge) but how we consume may be dramatically transformed.

We recently converted to Netflix from Blockbuster and can now watch high quality streaming entertainment at home on demand (as well snail mail CD's). The experience is better and the cost is less, one more nail in the analog coffin.
