pResurfacing for a moment to comment on a story in the a href=http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2008/12/18/business/AP-Energy-Drinks.htmlTimes/a#0160;that MillerCoors (when did they merge?#0160; I#39;m so far behind the times) is taking caffeine out of its alcoholic drink Sparks.#0160; What a name for a drink, huh?#0160; /p
pAnyway, this reminds me that I#39;ve been meaning to talk about a meal I had with Dan Filler at the hiring conference back in November.#0160; We stopped at one of the neighbor cafes for a quick meal and I ordered a beer.#0160; I thought, as I often do, that it#39;s nice to try to sample something of the local brews, so I asked what they had.#0160; The cafe was noisy and my hearing isn#39;t the best in those sorts of settings anyway, so I just picked the first one mentioned--had no clue what I was getting.#0160; When it arrived I couldn#39;t quite believe the taste.#0160; It tasted like they#39;d poured beer into a mug that hadn#39;t been quite washed out because, well, it tasted like there were coffee grounds in the drink.#0160; So--naive me--I made an inquiry about it.#0160; The waiter said, quot;yes, that#39;s espresso beer.quot;#0160; Still rather slow to catch on, I said something like, quot;how#39;s that?quot;#0160; The up shot is that they mixed coffee with beer.#0160; I have to say it#39;s the only beer I#39;ve had in years that I downright didn#39;t like.#0160; /p
pAnd what a strange combination anyway--alcohol and caffeine.#0160; Oh well, I live in the provinces, so I#39;m not up on the latest trends./pFull post as published by The Faculty Lounge on December 18, 2008 (boomark / email).
