: Law Blog - WSJ.comBarry Slotnick on Madoff: ?The Gloom and Doom . . . Is Wrong?
By Dan Slater
When it comes to the question of whether Bernie Madoff’s investors can expect to see any of their money returned, the news has largely been gloom and doom.
But one lawyer believes the gloom and doom is just that.
“We do believe that there is money in various parts of the world that’s redeemable,” Barry Slotnick, a partner in the New York office of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, told the Law Blog. Slotnick, who became well known after his largely successful representation in the ’80s of Bernhard Goetz, New York’s so-called “subway vigilante,” is currently down in Palm Beach working around the clock on behalf of jilted Madoff investors.
“When all is said and done,” added Slotnick, “the gloom and doom with regard to the inability of those that have been defrauded to recoup is just wrong. I’ve been speaking to people in various parts of the world and do believe that there are funds that have to be found and captured, and, necessarily there are techniques that I’m not at liberty to discuss right now that I will employ for my clients.”
So who are Slotnick’s clients and what are these so-called “techniques” that he hopes to apply? Slotnick won’t say. But if we get wind of what Slotnick’s up to, via the filing of a lawsuit or otherwise, we’ll be sure to let you know.
