Successful Exams Tip #2: Take Care of Yourself

By Leslie A. Pardo

ADVERTISEMENTS

The last thing you need is to get sick during exam period.  A few common sense tips can help keep you healthy:

  • Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep. Sounds impossible but in the long run you will have more energy and better quality study time.
  • Eat nutritious meals and keep away from the junk food. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins will keep your mind sharp and stave off the cravings for junk food which can make you sleepy and cranky.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially here in the desert. If you are thirsty then you are already dehydrated. I know this may be inconceivable to some, but keep away from caffeinated beverages. You will have better focus without the caffeine.
  • Try to exercise at least a couple times a week. Aerobic exercise relieves stress and makes you feel good. Exercise with a partner to keep you motivated like the two in this video clip:  Exercising Together

Staying healthy can make exam time a lot less stressful. So eat right, get plenty of fluids and sleep, and exercise when you can.  It will pay off in the long run.
