Over the weekend, the federal government decided to close down the immigration detention operation at one of the largest facilities in the region. This came after a federal investigation into a death that happened there this summer, one of the many that raised questions about terrible medical care in detention.

They're moving out over a hundred detainees, and finding new spaces for people who would normally go there. Some of those people will go as far away as Texas and Louisiana, which is very bad. If they're lucky, they'll go to a jail in western Mass. that's hard to get lawyers to, but is at least within my organization's outer orbit.

Today, about 30 minutes before I read the articles on what had happened, someone called me, worried about her fiance, who had been moved to western MA. She wasn't sure what was going on. Now I do. I feel...useful!

Also, when I called her back and her phone rang, it played "Get it Shawty." I like when my day goes, frustrating interview, frustrating research, frustrating expert witness drama, DANCE BREAK!
