Here?s one way to achieve an immortality of sorts on stage. When Polish pianist Andre Tchaikovsky died, he left his skull to the Royal Shakespeare Company, so that it could star as Yorick in the RSC?s productions of Hamlet. And the skull in fact appeared as Yorick during a recent four-month run of Hamlet at Stratford. But when audiences found out that the skull was a real skull, not a prop, they began to ?over-react? when they saw it. So the RSC decided to stop using Tchaikovsky?s skull. Said Tchaikovsky?s former agent, ?I understand that artists are very sensitive, most are? and I could imagine someone not being very comfortable?? The Telegraph has the story.
