The new fall TV season?

By Tung Yin

ADVERTISEMENTS

Many new fall TV shows will be premiering or returning this week, but I'm not seeing a whole lot that intrigues me, unlike last year.  On the other hand, some of the shows I was high on last year flamed out quickly, like "Smith" and "The Nine," and others never caught on with me, like "Heroes."

"Prison Break" comes back tonight, which I guess is what I'm most looking forward to.  (I TiVo'd the last episode of last season, which reran last week, because I can't for the life of me remember how Scofield ended up in that Panamanain prison.)

I was going to give a pass to "Reaper," because it sounded exactly like "Brimstone" (a guy is forced to become Satan's bounty hunter to track escaped hellish inmates), but it's gotten good early buzz, and Entertainment Weekly seems to like it.

And . . . uh . . . I guess "Moonlight" could be interesting: a private eye who's also a vampire.  Then again, "Forever Knight" never really caught on that big (even though I kind of liked it).

What else?  "Survivor" is set in China this year, which should be different; and then a bunch of summer shows like "Burn Notice," "Eureka," and "The 4400" are ending their season runs soon.  So it's kind of a bland crop for me until next January, when "Battlestar Galactica," "24," and "The Amazing Race" come back. . . .
