One of the most interesting parts of A.J. Jacobs' The Year of Living Biblically was his visit to a creationist museum. The museum had a Ph.D. on staff, a guy with a doctorate in archaeology or geology or some sort of earth-sciencey subject, who Jacobs described as bending over backwards to explain why evolution was wrong. These people were not stupid. They came up with their own model to fit with what they saw as the Biblical truth. It's not that they didn't understand science. They just didn't believe in it. It took me a while to wrap my head around that. Didn't believe in science. But they believe in God. It made me wonder if strong faith, which makes a virtue out of believing something you can't see, know, or experience, makes people less likely to believe something you can measure and verify.
