: Illinois Nursing Home Abuse BlogNursing Home Employees Charged with Theft
By Levin & Perconti
Two employees from a nursing home have been charged with stealing and then pawning the engagement ring of an 89-year-old woman. The 27-year-old certified nurse aides were charged with the misdemeanor crimes of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. Records show that the aids took two rings which belonged to the woman, a gold and diamond engagement ring and another family ring, saying that they would have them repaired so they wouldn?t fall off the woman?s finger. When the woman asked for them back later, the aid ignored her. When the elderly victim asked them back another time, the aid only returned the family ring. She couldn?t return the engagement ring because she had pawned the almost 70-year-old ring for $15. The attorney general points out that allegations like these demonstrate how nursing home patients can be financially taken advantage of by those entrusted with their care. The two have been sent back to jail, where they are being held on unrelated charges. To read the full story, click here.
