ADVERTISEMENTS

It inspires confidence when the person on whom you are relying for professional advice knows what the heck they are talking about and it saps confidence when they don't. The financial literacy (or illiteracy as the case may be)of so called experts upon who we rely for financial advice is of great interest to this author.

Rhonda Bentzen, the factoring broker who gained notoriety in the past year for offering, paying and defending kick backs to settlement planners and structured settlement consultants in exchange for involving her in structured settlement factoring transactions, was dramatically caught out when she "flubbed her lines" on the fundamental section of the tax code that applies to structured settlement factoring. Bentzen has incorrectly represented on several occasions that Internal Revenue Code Section 5891 made factoring legal.

Our story on the subject first posted on Structured Settlements 4Real was subsequently syndicated at Speaking of Settlements on the Legal Broadcast Network only 3 months ago. That story is now the most viewed blog on Speaking of Settlements.
