: Dispatches from the Culture WarsAlabama Approves NCBCPS Curriculum
By Ed Brayton
After initially approving only the Bible Literacy Project curriculum for Bible courses, the Alabama board of education has now approved the NCBCPS curriculum as well:
The board voted unanimously Thursday to approve "The Bible in History and Literature," which was developed by the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools. The vote came a year after the board made Alabama the first state to approve the use of "The Bible and Its Influence," published by the Bible Literacy Project. That textbook had drawn criticism from some conservatives.
Bad move. The Bible Literacy Project is much better and more objective and scholarly. The NCBCPS curriculum is a colossal joke, little more than a gathering of every religious right myth put together.
