Anything to get out of a nap

ADVERTISEMENTS
JW left for the airport right before K's naptime on Sunday. Maybe that's why K wouldn't settle down. I went in a couple of times and did the patting-and-singing routine, ignoring his efforts at conversation.

K has the alphabet on his walls, starting with A in one corner of the room and going all the way around to Z. "T," he said, pointing to the letter T on the wall. I kept singing. T was not going to stop the naptime routine.

"U," he said, pointing to U. "V. Da-U. X. Y. Z." His finger moved right with each letter.

I stopped singing and looked at him. "Did you just say T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z?" He nodded. "You don't want to take a nap?" He shook his head. "Okay," I said, lifting him out of the crib. "You can take a nap later. You've earned it."

For the sake of the virtual baby book, K knows A, B, C, sometimes D and E, K (of course), M/N (he says mmm for both), O, P, and apparently T through Z. Still to come: F through J, L, Q, R, and S.

K has a cousin who could tell you the difference between phalanges and metatarsals at age 3, so he still has a ways to go.
