Prediction: Obama Saves Lieberman

Lieberman's chairmanships are on the line now that the Dems have at least 57 seats in the Senate.

Reid is leaning toward taking them away.

But I like the theory that Obama will intervene and save Joe the Lieberman from losing these positions.

After all, it fits perfectly with the Obama message of healing and cooperation. To let Joe get voted out of these positions by the Dem caucus, without uttering a word, would actually go fairly strongly against the Obama message.

A couple things Lieberman should do to make it easier on Obama:

1. Reject, out of hand, McConnell's overtures to join the GOP caucus.

2. Cut a huge check to the DSCC and to Jim Martin in the Georgia runoff race.

3. Offer to help Martin in anyway possible in Georgia. It's a conservative state. Maybe some Republicans can be persuaded to vote for Martin if Lieberman talks to them.

And apparently, McCain will be campaigning for Chambliss, so Lieberman can even draw the contrast between himself and McCain when it comes to other candidates.

4. Commit now to supporting Obama's Iraq withdrawal plan, and his re-election in 2012, barring another run by McCain. (har, har)
