It's Sarah Palin Blame Day!

By jeremyblachman

ADVERTISEMENTS

I think this might be the most bizarre first paragraph of a news article I've ever read:

Sarah Palin spent "tens of thousands" more than the quoted $150,000 on clothes for the Republican campaign, met McCain aides in her hotel room dressed in nothing but a towel, and did not know Africa was a continent, according to new reports.

Full article here

The summary: Sarah Palin thought Africa was one big country, not a continent.  And she didn't know what countries were part of NAFTA.  And she refused to prepare for the Katie Couric interviews, and she spent hundreds of thousands of dollars more on clothing than she was supposed to, and she and John McCain never really talked to each other.

I feel bad for Sarah Palin, even assuming all of this is true, because the Republican Party set her up for this -- they picked her.  And now they're turning on her and making her the scapegoat.  And, sure, she shouldn't have said yes when they picked her, but...

I don't know, I can see the confusion, because of the names of countries like South Africa.  I mean, how is someone supposed to know that's an entirely separate country and not just a region of one big country?  Just like in the U.S. -- it's not like North Dakota and South Dakota are two separate states.  It's just Dakota, one of our 43 great states of the Union.   And, really, asking her what countries are in the North American Free Trade Agreement?  You're not going to fool her on that one.  Obviously it's a trick question.  It's only part of one country.  The north part of America.  Which to an Alaskan, obviously just means Alaska.  After all, it's about as far north as America gets.  Almost as far north as Canada.  And the country where Santa lives, which isn't really a country but is in fact just a small part of Africa.
