: Expressio Unius"One Anecdote"
One anecdote. I was at a 95% black event in downtown Oakland. A BBQ place. By the end, there were at least a thousand people there. We all crowded around the screen. When Obama got past 270, everyone was crying. The place cut the audio and played "long time coming" and "signed, sealed, delivered." Lots of black folks were running around with American flags. A black woman next to me grabbed me and said, "Only in America!" and waved an American flag around. In all the hullabaloo, I dropped an American flag pin that another black woman had given me. It was on the floor as we were dancing around. The woman with the flag knelt down, picked it up, and handed it to me, and then went off dancing.
They cut the music so we could hear Obama's speech. When Obama talked about how he would listen to Republicans and earn their confidence, an old black man nodded forcefully as he cried.
Maybe the best night of my life.
Pretty powerful stuff.
