: Illinois Nursing Home Abuse BlogNursing Home Workers Charged with Mistreating Patients and Falsifying Records
By Levin & Perconti
Four more workers at a nursing home, two of them caught on hidden camera, were charged yesterday with mistreating patients and falsifying records. The Attorney General?s records show that one resident of the nursing home had not showered for a month, an 84-year old female resident was rushed to the hospital because a nurse had failed to order routine blood tests; and an 84-year-old man was not turned to prevent sores. The employees were charged with multiple counts of endangering the welfare of disabled persons and falsifying records. All four pleaded not guilty to mistreating patients. One nurse did not clean a patient?s gastronomy tube or treat his ears for chaffing from oxygen tubes. Another employee was responsible for showering a resident twice a week, but instead gave him bed baths for a month. The final employee failed to include a doctor?s order for daily blood tests to monitor the dosage of the blood-thinning medication. The patient suffered internal bleeding. These are examples of the many nursing homes who employ workers that mistreat patients. To read the full story, click here.
