We don’t mean to make today about Ted Stevens, especially with so much important stuff going on. But we can’t resist mentioning another bizarre twist.
The WaPo is reporting that Marian Hinnant, identified as Juror #4, told U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan today that she lied about her father dying and flew to California for a horse race. Judge Sullivan had delayed deliberations because Hinnant told officials her father had died and she had to fly to California. Sullivan replaced her a few days later when she wouldn’t return telephone calls.
Hinnant reportedly admitted today that her father hadn’t died and she was at the Breeders’ Cup in Arcadia, Calif. The Post doesn’t tell us if her pony won, but she’s certainly lucky these days. The judge didn’t sanction her.
