Rules Eased for Voters Who Have Moved

By Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries

ADVERTISEMENTS
A law passed yesterday, St. 2008, c. __ (HB5121), allows Massachusetts voters who have moved within the state within the past eighteen months but have not yet registered at their new address to vote at their old address. The new provision is good for next week's election only. Immediately after this election, the grace period reverts back to six months as provided in MGL c.51, s.1.

According to an AP article in the Huffington Post, "'The governor believes that it is important to broaden access to the ballot particularly for people who have been displaced over the last year and a half due to the foreclosure crisis,' said Patrick's spokesman Kyle Sullivan.

The ballots will be limited to votes for president, U.S. senator and the three statewide ballot questions."
