: ACS BlogFla. Gov. Acts To Ease Lines For Early Voters
An emergency order signed by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R), is easing long lines for early voters at polls in some of the state’s most populous counties, Miami-Dade and Broward. The newspaper reported that lines of early voters stretched up to five hours in some places last week. This morning, The Miami Herald reported that voters were waiting only about an hour at many polling places. The order signed Tuesday by Crist extended early voting hours statewide from eight to 12 hours a day. The newspaper reported that political leaders in the state had called for the hours to be extended to help accommodate the scores of early voters. “It’s not a political decision,” Crist said after signing the order. “It’s a people decision.”
