: Jolly LawgerI’m Getting Married and I’m Really Happy.
By Steve Pirates
In nine (9) days I will be married. I’m very excited to finally make an honest woman out of my fiance. In addition to all of the nice state and federal benefits that come with getting hitched, it is nice to just be getting married. I know that’s atrocious grammar, but the mere fact that I’m getting married to the person that I love the most in the world, and that it’s real, is meaningful to me.
And the way I feel about getting married to Katie should be available to everyone, regardless of race, regardless of gender, regardless of orientation.
I can’t begin to imagine how devastated I would be if someone were to take the right to marry Kate away from me now. And yet three (3) days after I get married, that might be the reality in California.
I know that some of the people who read this blog are liberal, and some are not. Some of the people who read this like my writing, and some don’t. But this goes beyond politics, or who you like and who you don’t.
Even if you believe that the RITE of marriage should be limited, don’t limit the RIGHT to marriage. The love two consenting adults share with one another shouldn’t be denied protection just because they’re the “wrong” gender for one another. Love is love. The law should treat marriage as a right to personal association, and treat that right equally for all adults.
Vote No on Prop. 8.
