: BoardBuzz: NSBA's Daily WeblogLame duck session for this Congress?
Both the House and Senate adjourned a few weeks ago for the elections. BoardBuzz is closely following discussions to see if they will return for a lame duck session or simply wait for the new Congress to take up any unfinished business in January.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NE) has scheduled the Senate to return on November 17, but according to this article in Congress Daily yesterday, the House leadership will make this decision after the elections. According to the article, both Reid and House Speaker Pelosi are interested in working on a second stimulus bill to help the faltering economy, but the details of the package have not been openly discussed.

Most importantly, we want to see at least $3 billion for school construction, which will provide some needed repairs for our schools, and create new jobs for the economy.
An estimated 3 million students in America attend a public school in need of a major renovation or even replacement. In many cases the infrastructure is inadequate, outdated, or even crumbling! A better learning environment for our students directly correlates with improvements in student acheivement.
BoardBuzz will continue to follow the discussions about a second stimulus package and report back...
