Landmark HIV trial

After five years (?!) spent in pre-trial custody, Johnson Aziga goes to trial today in Hamilton on first-degree murder charges for allegedly spreading the HIV virus. Two women Aziga allegely had unprotected sex with while infected subsequently died of the disease. While there have been similar prosecutions in Canada, the charges have usually been for aggravated sexual assault. “It’s going to be a landmark case,” Aziga’s lawyer, Davies Bagambiire, said in an interview.  read more
