: BoardBuzz: NSBA's Daily WeblogThree cheers for the Homecoming Queen
You know we love a warm fuzzy, and BoardBuzz was proud to hear, by way of ABCNews.com, about a homecoming queen who is being treated like royalty.
Kristen Pass brought down the house when she was crowned in front of hundreds of spectators at the Aledo High School football stadium in Texas. Eighteen years ago, Kristen was born with Down Syndrome and this fall she was one of three senior girls who was chosen to compete for the crown. When announced the winner, cheers and tears erupted through the stadium, and classmates gave her a standing ovation to show their support. According to the article,
"Her smile was probably as big as the state of Texas," said Hust of her niece's reaction to her prize. "She kept mouthing 'thank you' from the stage."Everyone in the stands burst into tears -- I've never heard anything so loud in my life," Hust said. "Everyone was on their feet yelling, 'Yeah, Kristin!' louder than they had been cheering during the game."
The pride was shared by Kristen's grandfather, David Campbell, who escorted her to the event and led her on stage to be crowned. Kristen spent the night smiling and giving high fives and told ABCnews.com that she was, "surprised and happy about winning."
BoardBuzz was happy to hear about the community's love and support for their new homecoming queen... Congratulations Kristen!
