Update: 6th Circuit Reverses, Brunner Must Verify Newbies

By Anne Skove, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Earlier we tried to explain what a mess we already have here in Ohio regarding elections. It's as though we are trying to get it all done beforehand.

Breaking news in the area is that the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed its previous decision allowing Ohio Secretary of State Brunner to move ahead with same-day voting. The court is now ordering Brunner must verify all newly-registered voter information via other government documents by this Friday.

The case is currently available via Pacer. According to the 6th's website, it will be posted for the public by October 15.

The case is Ohio Republican Party v. Jennifer Brunner, No. 08-4322. Election Law @ Moritz has made most (if not all, by the time you click) of the case documents available.

Oh we are so ready for a Matthew Broderick/Reese Witherspoon fix right about now!

If you're realllly interested, or if Craig Ferguson isn't soporific enough for you, check out the NCSC's state links to election divisions and election codes.
