I recently discovered an excellent blog called Write to Done. Its twice-weekly articles are full of tips and advice about how to be a better writer. Although Write to Done does not focus on legal writing, many of its tips will help legal writers. For example:
- Trouble Sticking to Your Word Count? Try These Editing Tricks; and
- How to Rescue a Piece when You Write a Frankenstein.
I tried the word-count tricks on an article I wrote that came in slightly over the word limit. After I edited the article, it was not just shorter, it was better. I haven’t written a “Frankenstein” recently, but I’m sure the tips for rescuing a piece will come in handy eventually.
Check out Write to Done for ideas on improving your writing. Better writing skills will make you a better lawyer, and they could even improve your grades.
