That Momma Can't Spell!

By John Darer

ADVERTISEMENTS

In a post which exhibits the lack of sophistication of an aging gum chomping teenage gossip queen and the "spelling prowess" of Forrest Gump, Rhonda Bentzen refers to me as the structured settlement industry equivalent of "Senetor McCarthy". Download bentzen_cant_spell_senator_and_doesnt_get_the_point_on_mccarthy.pdf

Setting being alive or dead aside, the difference between Senator Joseph McCarthy and this author is that the late Senator was never able to substantiate his sensational charges. This author can, and has, time and time again!

  1. Ms. Bentzen has stated on a video shot in June 2008 and posted on the Summit Settlement Network that the majority of her business comes from structured settlement brokers.
  2. Ms. Bentzen has stated in writing that she pays what amounts to "kick backs" to 90% of her clientele, which we have proven serve to reduce the ultimate payout to desperate tort victims who have to go down this route.
  3. Ms. Bentzen has stated in a video shot in June 2008 and posted on the Summit Settlement Network that the majority of structured settlement brokers that refer cases to her do little more than refer the case (ultimately in exchange for the kick back).
  4. Ms. Bentzen apparently believes in the kick backs so much that she attempted to sabotage an effort by this author to segregate those that take kick backs from factoring companies from those that don't for the benefit of tort victims and their attorneys.
  5. Ms. Bentzen apparently offers to pay and has paid considerable soft money to structured settlement general agencies to sponsor their annual meetings and other consideration that is believed not to be disclosed to the clientele of the agencies' and their brokers.
  6. Ms. Bentzen has stated in writing that Bentzen Funding Solutions is still buying AIG paper.
  7. Ms. Bentzen has stated in writing that "it's business as usual".

So can we therefore conclude that many of Ms. Bentzen's structured settlement industry clients are now referring their clients to get out of AIG structured annuities in exchange for the "usual" kickbacks from Bentzen?

Oddly, Ms. Bentzen seems jealous of Mr. Cravenho, the principal of Settlement Quotes, LLC factoring exchange, an MBA who currently offers an ethical and articulate alternative to Bentzen and among one or two others, is worth a look for any financial planner or structured settlement industry professional where there is a well defined need and other alternatives have been explored.

A factoring exchange facilitates a bidding process for structured settlement factoring transactions.  One hates to be snooty but this author understands that some time this year Ms. Bentzen even contacted Mr. Cravenho to be included on Settlement Quotes' exchange, but Bentzen was not eligible to be one of SQ's certified funders because Bentzen is a mere broker and not a direct funder.

This author derives no income from structured settlement factoring transactions.
