NYT Expands Business and Economics Coverage

By Anonymous

ADVERTISEMENTS
The New York Times has apparently taken Barry Ritholtz's advice and is expanding its business and economics coverage. To which I say: good for them. Throughout the credit crisis (by which I mean the last 15 or so months), the NYT has provided surprisingly good coverage. For financial markets coverage, the FT and the WSJ are still in a league of their own, but the NYT has put itself in a position to challenge those two newspapers' dominance. And given what Ritholtz calls the "de-financialization" of the WSJ, the NYT is making its move at precisely the right time.

Here's what I'm looking forward to the most in the new-and-improved NYT:

Economix: A new blog written by David Leonhardt and Catherine Rampell will focus on both the global economy and the personal decisions readers make everyday.

Contributing Experts: The Economix blog will feature regular guest posts from Alan B. Krueger of Princeton University; Edward Glaeser of Harvard University; Bob McTeer, a former president and chief executive of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; Hung Huang, a Beijing-based entrepreneur; and Uwe E. Reinhardt of Princeton University.

Leonhardt is already one of the best economics columnists alive, and adding two heavyweights like Krueger and Glaeser will make Economix a must-read blog.
