Gasoline In Short Supply And Expensive

By Eddie Farah

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Florida Attorney General's Office had received more than 300 complaints by weeks end about gasoline price gouging following Hurricane Ike. The Gate stations in questions say their supplier raised the price on them and they're passing it onto the consumer.

The AG's office has identified the stations as -- Flying J, Dodge's Gas Stores, Valero and Pilot Travel Centers where prices were reported to be over $4 a gallon.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that on Tuesday the AG issued subpoenas to four the four companies.

Inventories for gasoline dropped more than three million barrels this week as a result of shutdowns and those supplies are the lowest since November 1967. Still there are shortages in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. The problem is that refineries in Texas the along the Gulf coast and West Louisiana had been closed during Ike, they are now slowly coming back on-line.

Gov. Charlie Crist said that Florida is not suffering from any gas shortages and that people shouldn't panic.
