ADVERTISEMENTS
Usually, when I drop off K at daycare, I hand him over at the door, kiss him goodbye, and leave. But this morning the backup assistant was there alone, and she had her hands full of babies, so she asked me to bring him into the playroom. (Bad move. He thought I was staying, and freaked out when I left.)

When we walked in, the TV was on. She changed the channel to a cartoon and told me (in Spanish), "K loves watching TV. He cries when we turn it off!" What? "We don't let him watch TV at home," I said, alarmed. "We don't want him to watch TV." But then another kid arrived, chaos ensued, and we didn't get to finish the conversation.

JW talked to Mrs. Daycare when he picked up K. We had told her when K first started there that we didn't want him watching TV. Then, she said that she puts it on for a few minutes during dropoff time in the morning and around noon, when she makes the kids lunch. This time she said it was about twenty minutes in the morning and twenty minutes at lunchtime, but the TV was on at pickup time when JW was there. So JW thinks K has been watching TV for up to an hour a day.

We are not happy about this.
