: ACS BlogSenate To Hear Testimony On Federal Courts, Barriers To Equality For Workers
The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee is set to conduct a hearing tomorrow on the federal courts and workers’ efforts to overcome legal barriers to equality in the workplace. As revealed in a study released by the American Constitution Society last week, employees seeking to vindicate their rights in the federal court system are increasingly faring poorly. (That study is available here.)
Cyrus Mehri, a founding partner of Mehri & Skalet, PLLC, who participated in an ACS panel discussion about the study, will testify at the Senate hearing. Also set to testify tomorrow is Lilly Ledbetter, a plaintiff in a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire Co., which dealt a major setback to workers’ rights, as well as Eris S. Dreiband, former general counsel of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission during the Bush administration. Dreiband also participated in last week’s ACS panel discussion of the study on the federal courts and workers’ rights. Video of that event can be obtained here.
