Toni Morrison's Apology

By wt

ADVERTISEMENTS
Toni Morrison famously quipped in 1998 that Bill Clinton was America's first black President.

Last week, Roland S. Martin, a CNN commentator, called her out on that statement:

MARTIN: Toni Morrison, you owe black America an absolute apology. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in my life.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the video, and it loses a little bit in the transcript.**

Is Toni Morrison's endorsement of Barack Obama her apology for that comment? Is her guilt tearing her up inside?

Maybe the realization that a white president with strong ties to the black community is no substitute for, you know, an actual black president, finally set in.

Or maybe she just has a crush on him.

** If anyone can find the video online I'd gladly give a hat tip and some kudos to that person in a future post.
