Center for Biological Diversity gives Palin the Bird

By melvin

ADVERTISEMENTS
Award season is upon us already. Kicking it off, the Center for Biological Diversity has given Alaska governor Sarah Palin its coveted Dodo Award for 2008 for her denial of human-caused global warming and her extraordinary efforts to fight off any legal protection for the polar bear.

From CBD executive director Kieran Suckling's remarks in the press release:

All global warming deniers are eventually forced to suppress scientific studies, and Palin is no different. To maintain her ludicrous opposition to protecting the polar bear in the face of massive scientific consensus, Palin stepped over the line to lie about and suppress government science.
. . . .
Palin's insistence that Arctic melting is 'uncertain' is like someone debating the theory of gravity as they plunge off a cliff. It's hopeless, reckless, and extremely cynical.

The award passes over in silence her remarkable work in Cruelty to Wolves. But maybe they simply ran out of space.

Palin is now in very select company. The only previous winner is Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, 2007 Dodo recipient for his crucial role in refusing to enforce the Endangered Species Act despite his official legal obligation to do so.
