Want the nation's biggest courthouse? It'll cost $1.1 billion.

The cost to build the biggest courthouse in the nation in downtown Los Angeles has tripled to $1.1 billion according to the General Accounting Office, the Los Angeles Times reported (here).

The construction of the federal courthouse on Broadway and 1st Street received $366 million from the federal government -- not enough for a project that has expanded to include 54 courtrooms instead of the originally planned 41, the Times reported.

The GAO suggested some cheaper alternatives.
