The Isotoner Campaign

Obama is, once again, promising to take the gloves off to combat John McCain's poll surge.

Is this the first time the gloves have come off?

But just so you know -- this is, by my count, the 4th time Obama's campaign has officially or unofficially made such a declaration that Obama will "take off the gloves" and fight back.

That's a lot of pairs of gloves.

The Isotoner campaign, one might say.

What an opening. This is Lakoffian politics at its best. "Gloves" usually means "boxing" gloves. To take them off is to make the punches harder.

But the Obama campaign has left an opening for the McCain campaign to give voters the image of designer gloves. Which Obama has to take off, over and over again.
