By Jason Siegel
The first woman was elected assistant presiding judge at Los Angeles Superior Court, the second-highest administrative position on the court on Wednesday, the Metropolitan News-Enterprise reported. (here, here)
If tradition holds, Superior Court Judge Lee Smalley Edmon will also become the court?s presiding judge in 2011 - 100 years after women won the right to be judges in California, MetNews reported. Charles McCoy, the current assistant presiding judge, was elected presiding judge on Wednesday.
Edmon, 52, may be the youngest assistant presiding judge in the court's history, MetNews reported.
She is currently the supervising judge of the court?s civil departments on its executive committee and is on the Judicial Council of California, chairing its Civil and Small Claims Advisory Committee, MetNews reported.
