Mediators Wanted to Play Client Role

By Anne Skove, Esq.

ADVERTISEMENTS

Just as doctors should be patients and judges should sit on the other side of the bench now and then, mediators should experience their clients' point of view.

Now they can! We received this announcement from Deborah Laufer's listserv:

CALLING ALL MEDIATORS
DO YOU EVER WONDER WHAT YOUR
CLIENTS ARE EXPERIENCING IN MEDIATION?

IF SO, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS RARE OPPORTUNITY:

WHAT: The Maryland Council for Dispute Resolution (MCDR) is in need of mediation “role players” for its upcoming Certification Days.
Role Players are an essential part of performance based assessment and give those who are playing the roles the rare opportunity to experience a mediation session “through the eyes of a client” and to gain further insight into their own mediation practice.

WHEN: Saturday October 25, 2008 (in North Baltimore) and Sunday February 15, 2009 (in Montgomery County)

THE PROCESS: Mediators with at least one-year of mediation experience are undergoing performance-based assessment in order to engage in “reflective practice”, to receive feedback from other experienced mediators and to observe, for themselves, the degree to which they are able to demonstrate a level of skill and craftsmanship that is consistent with their theory of practice and their self-perceptions.

*If you are interested in being considered as a role player in a family, workplace or community dispute for a one-hour mediation role play, please contact Lindsay Barranco at 410-544-5349 or lbarranco@comcast.net.

*Certificates of attendance will be provided to role players by MCDR for participating in three hours of a mediation related activity. Certificates of attendance may be submitted to MPME for approval as a required mediation-related activity.
