: ParalegalGateway BlawgFormer Paralegal Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy
By ParalegalGateway.com
A former interpreter and paralegal for two prominent Rhode Island
lawyers has pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge for his role
in shaking down a drug dealing couple for $150,000 and for manipulating
the criminal justice system.
Juan Giraldo, who is serving a six-year federal prison sentence for cocaine trafficking, entered his plea Monday in Boston. He admitted that he conspired and participated in the scheme with lawyers John Cicilline and Joseph Bevilacqua Jr.
He made the plea just before his trial was scheduled to start.
Cicilline is the brother of Providence Mayor David Cicilline, while Bevilacqua is the son of the former chief justice of the state Supreme Court.
Both pleaded guilty in June to charges stemming from the case and are awaiting sentencing.(Source >>>)
